I install Outlook 2003 and it forgets me - help?

Hi, I am a long time Office user and very proficient except for Outlook. I
have been using Earthlink's email software. Decided to switch to Outlook.
(silly me)

I installed Oulook yesterday from the original cd. I started it up, it found
all my info from the Earthlink program -- easy! I thought. It would let me
read all the messages but wouldn't let me write or edit any email messages.
"you cannot do that because the document is locked" it said. Worked fine
when Word was not the email editor, but then why bother?

So I reinstalled Word and Outlook worked just fine! yay! The next time I
opened it up and tried to write a new message it said "Activation Wizard; you
have to activate your software because you are trying to use a demo copy that
has expired..." When I try to activate, it says my product key is invalid so
I reinstalled again from the orignal disc and it still doesn't work. I can
read my email in Outlook but have to go back to the Earthlink software to
write and send a message. OR not use Outlook at all.

Ideas? anyone? I appreciate your help!! should I use add/remove software to
get rid of the original outlook and then reinstall? will I lose the rest of
Office??

I really appreciate any help anyone can offer!!
