I just cannot install updates, impossible

office 2003, 11 updates just refuse to install. I have checked in my install
history and most of the error codes are Error Code: 0x80070643 microsoft
resolution is to start the OSE service (which is already started by the way)
and that is pretty much the level of support, Humph!

windows updates install fine but not office updates

I cannot find any article that gives a definitive fix for this problem.

I have this on my pc -- when I called into MS -- they told me that it was
becuase my copy was illegal. I offered to fax them my box showing the serial #
etc.

Then they told me to (you just had to know this was coming) "Uninstall Office &
reinstall"

There is absolutely no point in reinstalling Office just to fix a bug in the
LCC Wizard - the cost is far too high for such a small benefit.

This has happened to me, too, with KB919029. If you search the Knowledge
Base for KB919029 you will find ... nothing! (Google find a Korean page.) A
pity, this common type of update problem can often be fixed by running an exe
version of the patch manually, and even if it fails the diagnostic details
are far better than those provided by Win/Office Update. As usual, the
OSE.EXE fixes decribed in KB903772 had no effect on my PC.

Thanks a bundle, Microsoft. You've done it yet again. When we all bought
Office, we weren't told we would have to reinstall it every month (well, not
quite... but this would be the third time this year for me) because the
security patches wouldn't install otherwise.

P.S. I f you do reinstall, do not forget that Visio, Project, OneNote etc.
will have to be reinstalled too, followed by their service packs and then
Win/Office Update. Straightforward, and it will almost certainly be
successful - but a problem if you do not have a completely clear day in your
diary.
