I lost my navigation!

L

Lochi

I have done several sites with FP 98 and 2000 over the past 5 years, but now
need to update some of them. When changing to my new pc (with FP 2002), I
copied all sites to the new pc’s hard drive. When I now open them in FP 2002
and try to work on them, there is no theme (which is not serious) but also no
links! Previewing the site with the “Preview†tag has the same result, but
previewing it with the “Preview with Browser†choice on top bring everything
back to normal.
What now?
Thanx,
Lochi.

How did you "copy" the sites??

It is best to "Publish" them from the server to the computer using FrontPage.

Steve, I copied them in the usual ways in Windows Explorer like drag-and-drop
or copy and paste etc. Onto folders of my own and not the defaulting "My
Webs" one under "My Documents".
I always use WS FTP, with which I "reverse published" them back from the
Internet onto my hard drive. That had even worse results - not even
"browseable". All small links are intact, but major navigation buttons are
simply missing - also no themes.
I'd hate to redo all of those sites. It would be so much easier to just
update them.
This makes me choke with fear if I cannot get it right.
Thanx,
Lochi

If using disc based web make sure when you copy from machine a to machine b you are copying all hidden / system / know file types

I do not know what disc based web means, so it looks like I'll have to redo
all my sites from scratch. In fact, I will not even copy and past across,
since FP will somehow pull a weirdo on me, as happens so frequently.
I suppose this is the wrong forum to ask advice on an alternative, more
user-friendly application? I am very very disappointed.
thanx for trying Steve

You just need to spend a little time learn how to use/work with FP.

A disk-based web is a web that you accessed via a drive letter (C:\..) vs. a server-based web which
is accessed via http://localhost
