I lost my office assistant! Wah!

Please don't flame me. I'm sensitive.

"There was a problem starting the office assistant. Would you like to try
reinstalling it?"

Sure.

(Buzz, whir)
"The Office Assistant could not be started. The Assistant might not have
been disabled properly, there might be problems with your Office setup, or
your computer might be low on memory."

I've got plenty of memory, both RAM and HDD.

Repair Office didn't help.
Removing and reinstalling the Assistants (in Office Setup) didn't help.
Uninstalling Karen Kenworthy's Power Toy (which uses the Agents: Peedy,
etc.) didn't help.
Deleting the Agents themselves(WINNT\msagent\chars) didn't help. I deleted
the agents because when I try to start an Office Assistant, Peedy pops into
the sys tray, but nothing else happens. When I double click on Peedy, he
flies onto Office workspace, but is frozen thereafter.

After years of hating the paper clip, I found I like Peedy and Merlin. Can
anyone help me get them back?

I haven't provided all possible details here, but I would be happy to add
more if needed.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the site tip. I enjoyed it. Peedy worked fine on the MSFT Agent
site, but still doesn't work in Office XP.

I also reinstalled Karen Kenworthy's Power Toy (a demo of Agent technology)
and Peedy works fine there too. Better than he does on the MSFT site.

I am convinced the problem is in Office, but Office repair and reinstall do
nothing. Much as I love Peedy, I'm not willing to reformat my HDD and
reinstall two operating systems just to get him back.

I'm stuck.

"Have you tried a complete removal of Office? Then reinstall"

No, I'll try it.

"Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Peedy?"

I don't know how. All I know to do is to delete his Agent file from
G:\WINNT\MSAgent\chars.

Paul,

Completely removing and reinstalling Office XP worked. Peedy is back.
Thanks!
