I lost my .pst folder

S

Sue

I had to do a full restore on my computer due to it not starting up any other
way. I now can't access my .pst folder anywhere. Is it gone or is it just
hidden?

Please help as I had lost my PDA input and can't sync it up with the
computer now.

Thanks so much,

Sue

It's gone. Do you have a backup?

*sighs* No I don't. I thought this was considered a "data file" and would be
saved. This really sucks. Thanks tho'.

Now you know that back up is a computer user's best friend and should be
done daily.

A hard lesson. When you restore your computer to factory settings it does
just that - just as the day you bought it BEFORE you put any data onto it.

As others have noted, unfortunately it's gone. :-( When you do something
like a system restore, or format, none of your files will be preserved
regardless of the type of file -- even those that are considered "data
files".

Also, should you encounter issues in the future more often than not they can
be rectified without resorting to a system restore. You might try asking
about the issue in the newsgroups first before taking that route. :)

If you search for files (hidden) with a .pst extension, do you find any except for your new one?

I think the OP's done a factory restore.......

Oh well, lesson learned about a good recent backup. I use a second hard drive for all my data files and then I back that up to an external NAS.

well, I am glad to report that many of you were wrong about my .pst file
being destroyed in the full restore.

I went to another site and followed their advice about showing hidden files
and found the file after all.

Thanks for your help anyway!

So you did a SYSTEM restore, not a Factory gate restore.

I hope this discovery doesn't lead you to think that you don't need to
back up your data.

Milly:

Yes you did but I didn't see it. After I saw the post that I was unable to
get it back, I called my company's IT guy and asked him. He gave me the same
advice you did.

Thanks anyway!

Sue

(P.S. I did the F10 full restore, though it said my data files would be
saved.)
