I made a copy of my outlook pst files, how do I import/convert in.

I had to re-install my OS (XP pro) and I thought I could just copy the files
in the outlook directory, where the pst files are. Then after I tried to
import them from the CD I copied, the files from didnt work! Get error
message (not Personal Folder File). I thought I had done it this way before,
but I did it from Outlook Express to Outlook. Now that I have read little
bit about backing up Outlook files, I know what I should have done. But, that
being said, what can I do, if anything? I would think there would be a way of
using the files I have and make them useable?

Your file should be fine. It's your profile you corrupted.
