I need help with fonts

My website (see signature) has a lot of text. I imported most of it from
Word documents. FrontPage converted the Word doc to HTML during the
transfer.

FrontPage automatically converted my Times New Roman to Verdana. For
legibility purposes, I wonder if this is the best font, or if I should
change it to a serif font like Times New Roman.

What are the rules and fonts suggested for best legibility of large amounts
of text on a web page? I have looked for this information all over, without
luck.

There are no hard & fast rules,
- but most usability test shows San-Serif fonts are easier to read on screen than Serif fonts (which are better for print media)

It's usually better to copy text from Word into Notepad to strip away of the
excess code. Then copy and paste into FP.
