I need help with my saved data!!!

I attend the university of North Carolina at Pembroke, and last
week there was a power outtage. I do not know if that is the cause of what is
going on with the computers. I saved two documents onto my flash pen drive
and i saved them on different computers in the same building. When i try to
pull them up all i get is boxes instead of letters. i have tried fooling
around with the puter to try and change this but i have had no luck. CAN YOU
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!
