Office 5 was a Mac version.
Office 7 is Office 95
Office 8 is Office 97
The letters indicate the update level (patches) that
were applied, but, as those versions used AcmeSetup
rather than MSI, it doesn't mean that those updates
are still 'in place'. (Running setup of Office could
require a reapplication of the Service Release or
Service Packs).
Office 7a would be the pre-Y2K update level.
