I need to activate an external floppy disk drive for my computer.

I purchased an external 31/2 floppy disk drive for my computer. However, to
install it I need a 25 character key before it will open my files. It's one
of those that you plug to back of the computer with a usb cord.

I can't answer your question but I presume the instructions that came with
your drive should tell you what to do. It is certainly not a Word issue, so
if you continue to be stuck I suggest you try to find a more relevant
newsgroup (hardware/OS oriented) where you may find people knowledgeable in
this area.

Windows XP contains all the drivers necessary to add a USB drive. Simply
plug it in and let Windows find it.
However, never ever read from, write to or print from floppy with Word. This
is the most certain method of ensuring document corruption. Copy to the hard
disc and work on the document from there.
