I need to create a 24 hour weekend calendar

I need to create a 24 hour week end calender. We are an IT shop, and we will
be placing a new WMS in production in the near future. Then PM has a few
tasks that will need to be worked over the weekend(s). I need the M-F to be
the normal 8-5 and the weekend to be 24 hours. What is the best way to do
this?

When does the weekend begin and end? Does it begin at 5:00 PM Friday night
or midnight? Does it end at midnight on Sunday or at 8:00 AM on Sunday?

Thanks Dale.

It begins roughly at 5:00pm Friday and ends 5:00pm Sunday So
5:00PM Friday to 5:00pm Saturday 24 hours
5:00PM Saturday - 5:00pm Sunday 24hours

There will be multiple resources working the task(s). I was thionkling about
assigning the new calendar to the task.

To create the weekend work calendar you describe, do the following:

1. Launch Microsoft Project and log into Project Server with administrator
permissions
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global
3. Click Tools - Change Working Time
4. Click the New button
5. Select the "Create a new base calendar" option
6. Name the new calendar something like "24-Hour Weekend Work"
7. Click OK
8. Select the Friday column header and set the working time to 5:00 PM -
12:00 AM
9. Select the Saturday column header and select the Nondefault Working Time
option
10. Set the working time for Saturday to 12:00 AM - 12:00 AM
11. Select the Sunday column header and and select the Nondefault Working
Time option
12. Set the working time for Sunday to 12:00 AM - 5:00 PM
13. Select the Monday through Thusday column headers and select the
Nonworking Time option
14. Click OK
15. Save and close the Enterprise Global file
16. Exit and relaunch Microsoft Project Professional

Your calendar will now be available for use as a Task Calendar on any tasks
that must occur over a weekend on the 24-hour schedule you specified. Hope
thsi helps.

Dale,

Thanks so much. Just wanted verification. That is what I will do.
Ok Got a little curve, more of a what if.
Create one new calender.
Monday thru thursday, Set the working time like normal 8-5pm
Friday set the time 8 - 12am ( gives us the whole day)
Saturday set the non default working time time 12AM to 12am
Sunday set the non default working time 12AM-5pm
Say you had a task that begins on Monday 8:00am and Ends the following
Sunday 5pm. @ 88 hours (if my math is correct).
Would this schedule the task (40+24+24) the whole week.

Yes and no. If you created such a calendar (which I did for this test) and
applied it as a task calendar on an 11-day Duration task with a resource
assigned to work full-time (88 hours of Work), the software will schedule
the work as follows:

M T W Th F S Sun
8 8 8 8 16 24 16

The task would be scheduled to begin Monday at 8:00 AM and would finish
Sunday at 5:00 PM, as desired. When you assign the calendar as a Task
Calendar on this task, remember to select the "Scheduling ignores resource
calendars" option. Hope this helps.

Dale,
Thanks.
I found the "Scheduling ignores resource calendars" check box. That was one
of the keys.
I did get mine to work with a little work. We are using fixed work for the
projects. I found that using the Split screen really helps. I have the task
starting at 5:00pm Saturday and finishing 8:00pm Sunday. (last minute change
by the PM) It shows the work on the w/e. I selected one resource (More can
be added) as long as the duration and work stay the same, and the Duration is
displayed at 5.13 days amd work is 52 hours.

My calendar is

Friday 5pm - 12am
Sat 12am - 12am
Sun 12am - 8:00pm

Looks like it is working.

Thanks again.

Jack
