I need to know the difference between jpeg and bitmap images

Hi Carol,

You can tell the file type by the extension. that is, a bitmap would be
something dot bmp, like something.bmp.

A jpg will be something.jpg. You can open a particular image in an image
editing program and save it as jpg.

I am having problems with an assignment that is due on tuesday. I need to
enter a jpeg image into my powerpoint presentation and I am not sure if I
already have one in there or if the program holds jpeg or bitmap. The
professor wants jpeg or gif not bitmap and I am not sure either of the
difference between the two. Carol

Carol,
I suspect the reason for the file needing to be in JPG format is that,
for the same actual image size, it will be much smaller than a BMP
file. On my system, using Paint Shop Pro, I have an image saved as in
BMP format that is 8,355KB. As a JPG file it is 269KB!

Displaying the two images side by side I cannot see any difference
between them & in the circumstances the professor's requirement is very
reasonable.
