I recently installed tiger- and today when I went into excel there was
no file menu on top
My tool bar also did not show a blank document menu -I cant print do
page set up etc.
I went to the microsoft website, thought it was an udate-download issue
sure enough at the website I was told that there is a new update office
2004 1120updateEN.dmg
so I updated and it confirmed a successful download.
I went int system preferences no such download.
I still have the same issue with the file menu missing
and baffled at why the download is not showing up on my recently
uploaded items?
I called microsoft got India any suggestions
Thanks
JM

Your post is very confusing. Why would you expect to see a download on
your recently *uploaded* items (are you looking at your FTP client?)?
Downloads, assuming you're using a web browser, aren't generally saved
in your *system* preferences, nor would there be any indication in
system preferences that you'd downloaded a file - what were you looking
for?

A couple of things come to mind. Since you just installed Tiger, there
may be a permissions issue. Use the Disk Utility application (in
HD:Applications:Utilities) to repair your disk permissions. That's a
good thing to do regularly in any case.

You should also look in whatever folder your browser is set to download
to for the .dmg file. Better yet, use Tiger's Spotlight to find a file
with "updateEN.dmg" in the file name! Double-clicking on that file
should open the disk image and allow you to update.

Of course, the easiest way to update is to choose "Check for updates"
from the Help menu in any Office application. That will start the
Microsoft Autoupdate application which will automate the update (or you
can run the application yourself from the Applications folder).

None of that, however, has *anything* to do with your initial problem.
Your menu bar/toolbar has been corrupted. That can be fixed in either of
a couple of ways:

1) In XL, choose Tools/Customize/Customize Toolbars/Menus... Select the
"Worksheet Menu Bar" item in the Toolbars tab (so that it is
highlighted, not just the checkbox checked). Click Reset, then OK. Close
XL to force it to save the new preferences.

or,

2) With XL closed, delete the

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Excel Toolbars (11)

file, where ~ is your home directory.

Restart XL - your menu bar should be restored.
