I really cannot get inserted pictures to display in word

Hi,

I am using word 2002 on windows xp home edition on a Dell insipron 6000
laptop. I am able to insert a picture from insert>picture>from file into a
word document but the picture does not show: there is just a white space.

I have tried going to the tools>options>picture placeholders check box, but
find that it is not checked. When I do check the picture placeholders box I
can see either a black line around my picture or eight dots showing me that
there is a picture there. If I go back and uncheck the box I get back to the
white space on the document. If I leave the document for a while (say go for
a cup of tea with word still on), or resize the picture, or go to
tools>options (and no further) the picture does display, but as soon as I
scroll the document it disapears again.

Some guys at IS think it might be the display drivers on the laptop - I'm
not sure?

I really have no idea, so, if there is anyone out there who can suggest a
fix, or if there is not one, what I should email to microsoft, I would really
really welcome it and be very thankful.

I've only had the laptop a week, so if you can help please do

Cheers

Try this:

Right click on the desktop, Click on Properties.
Click on Settings, then click on Advanced.
Click on Troubleshoot.
Move the Hardware acceleration slider to None.
Click on Apply, then OK.

This solved it for me.

While this workaround will get you going, your original information about
the inadequacy of the screen driver is undoubtedly the problem. Check the
display chipset manufacturer's web site for an update.

Hi - I followed through on Graham's suggestion about the drivers with HP and
they came back with a blindingly fast response (<15hrs) as detailed below.

This is in response to your e-mail regarding the HP Nx6120 notebook.

Based on the information provided in your email, we understand that there
are no images displaying on the Microsoft Word and reducing the hardware
acceleration has resolved this issue.

Please install the latest version of Microsoft DirectX and the Intel 915GM
Express Chipset Video Driver by clicking on the below link:
Microsoft DirectX:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/windows/directx/downloads/default.htm

Intel 915GM Express Chipset Video Driver:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/22485.html

If the issue persists, we recommend that you uninstall the MS Office using
the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. Then using the MS Office CD,
please reinstall the MS Office program and check for the occurrence of the
issue.
