I realy feel stupid

How do I get access to macros. I have been using a number of them for some
time now and have access on my xp computer but not on my win 98. I have
reinstalled word and gone through all the help and menus. I do have access
to visual basic and some macros but I can't use the macro selection in the
tool menu to make new macros. It isn't highlighted. Can anybody help.

I suspect that you need to re-install Office.
Instruct the install to install missing components and choose a custom
install.

Could be that the "typical" install does not install.enable VBA.
