I recently upgraded to OneNote 2007 from ON2003. When I try to edit sections
that were brought over from the 2003 sections I get an error message that
reports I am using a section created in an earlier version of OneNote that
needs to be upgraded. When I click on the message it begins the upgrade but
I then receive an error message that indicates that OneNote has encountered a
problem and cannot complete this operation. I have all the upgrades
installed in Windows XP.

I reviewed earlier questions in this forum from 2006-2008 but did not see
that the problem was ever fully answered.

You HAVE a .onecache file !
But you have to allow searching/showing hidden files/folders ...

I did find the onecache file and first tried renaming it. A new one was
created but that didn't help. I then deleted both and that did not help
either. I have tried upgrading just one section and all sections. In both
cases the upgrade progress bar reaches about 80% then stops and a message
pops up that says 'Onenote has encountered a problem and cannot complete this
operation'. Any other ideas? I really appreciate your help.

Two ideas:

1. /safeboot option; see under header "SafeBoot":

http://www.onenote-tips.com/troubleshooting.html

2.
a. close your nitebooks
b. Save your notebooks anywhere
c. open the backup notebooks from your File menu and try the conversion
with them

One or a combination of these options worked. My sections have all been
updated. Thankyou very much. Scott
