I removed MS Exchange and lost my offline contact file!

I just got laid off. I have all my personal and professional contacts in my
Contact Address Book which is always accessible offline [when not connected
to Exchange]. Problem: when I deleted Exchange from my list of email
addresses, I lost my offline contact file, too! Help! Is it still on my
harddrive? My backup is not up to date. Is there a file type that I look
for? Thank you!

What version of windows? if you just deleted it and your windows supports
system restore, use system restore to restore to a time before you deleted
the acct. Then move everything you want to keep to a pst file and delete
the acct.

if you don't have a restore point, it can be expensive to get them back - in
most cases you'll need to buy a recovery tool. See the tools list at

Thank you. Are you telling me that my contact data file is no longer on my
harddrive? Or that the data is there, but I'll need to invest in an
expensive tool if I don't have a recovery point [I don't.] I'm on Vista
Ultra and Office 2007.

It all depends on exactly how you had the account configured. Assuming you
used cached or offline mode, its still on your harddrvie - but you need to
get the contacts out of the OST. Only the exchange account can access the
ost and if you deleted the account from outlook and can't recover it, you
need to use a 3rd party tool.

How long ago did you delete the exchange account? Use Vista's system restore
to rollback to a point before you deleted the account. Do you see the
contacts? If so, move them to a pst file (File, New, Outlook data file).

There is a file, outlook0.ost 71mg with the date of my last update, still on
my harddrive. I couldn't get outlook to open it. No, I cannot see my
contacts.

So I need a third party tool or one of geek friends to create an extract
script for me? I'll do more research. Obviously I made some bad mistakes
and silly assumptions.

this is the cache of your mailbox.

When did you delete the profile? Did you check available system restore
points?
A script won't work - you need a 3rd party program if you don't have a
restore point to use. (some of the programs at
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.asp#tools will recover them)

I did the dasterly deed on 5/18/09. I don't think that i have a system
restore point.... I do have contacts on my blackberry and I guess that will
have to do. Feeling pretty stupid right now. Thank you again for all of
