I turned off Autoarchive, but old messages disappear anyway.

Specifically, messages from 3/31/06 disappeared today out of the inbox.
Autoarchive is definitely off for the folder, and Outlook itself. What is
happening?

Check the VIEW you are in for the Inbox folder (the current view window is
on the advanced toolbar).
