I upgraded to Office 2003 but keep getting updates for 2000

Several weeks after I upgraded to Office 2003 from 2000, when I do search for
necessary updates, it says there are required updates for Office 2000. Do I
really need to keep updating Office 2000 now that I've upgraded?

Thanks!

Check under Add/Remove programs for still installed Office 2000 programs.
The upgrade packages post Office 2000 Premium do not include all of the
programs in Office 2000 so it is possible you still have a stray Office
2000 program installed.

Hi Milly,

Yes, it shows I still have Office 2000 Pro installed. I would have thought
when I installed the upgrade, it would have replaced anything necessary. It
worries me to uninstall Office 2000 - are you sure it won't screw anything
up? I've certainly had my problems with this upgrade, that's for sure, and
don't want any more!

If I'm too chicken to uninstall Office 2000, can I just ignore the updates
for it and be OK?

Thanks a bunch!

Hi Malia,

Office 2000 had more parts and programs than later versions. Office 2003 only uninstalls what it can replace, so often you have an
Office 2000 entry remaining.

You should be able to uninstall the remaining parts of Office 2000, although you may need to run a repair of Office 2003 with the
CDs for that version.

If you're using any of these features from Office 2000, they are no longer available in Office 2003 suites.

MS Office Photo Editor
MS Office Shortcut Bar
MS Office Binder
MS Office Photodraw
MS Office Frontpage (sold separately after the 2000 version)

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the explanation as to why I still have 2000 installed after the
upgrade. But I tell ya, I spent 2 days trying to uninstall and reinstall
2000 and 2003 after upgrade problems and I'm not into borrowing any more
trouble. Main question now is if I can leave things as they are and just not
download any of the "required" or suggested updates for Office 2000, or if I
should go ahead and do the updates.

Thanks again!
Malia

You have 2 options:
1. Install the updates. you don't want to leave any security holes created
by the previous version of office. The updates will not cause problems with
Office 2003.

2. Do a full uninstall of Office 2000. see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q219423/
You may need to repair the Office 2003 installation after doing this.
