I want to assign hours to my tasks and track that way. How?

I have loaded a project that is to be tracked at the task level by hours
budgeted and actual % of work complete. What is the best way to set this up?
This will not be reasource loaded.

I suggest you assign 1 resource ("Worker1") at a standard rate of $1/hr to
all the detailed work level tasks. Set a baseline and go from there.

Thanks Jim.

I assigned a resource. In the Task Usage I see the resource shown under the
task. What I want to do is assign the budgeted hours to each resource and
then be able to input acutal hours used and another column whould show hours
remaining.

Which columns are best for this purpose? I tried using the Work column to
enter the budgeted hours ... but this automatically fills in the calendar.?.

You need the Actual Work columns and Remaining Work columns.

Presumably by 'calendar' you mean the time-phased portion of the display
on the right. Project would fill that in because that is what it is
meant to do.

Rather than tracking by means of the columns you refer to above, I would
track by entering the actual work in the corresponding field on the
'calendar' part of the display.

If you right click on that part of the display, you can add the Work,
Actual Work and Remaining Work rows for each task.

Then if you right click on the date bars at the top of the screen you
can set the date display to be of a granularity that is useful to you.

Now you can enter the work that has been completed against the day/week/
month in which it took place.
