I want to line things up vertically.... HOW?

I have five or six categories of information that I want to line up vertically:

Index Weekly Monthly Yearly Combined
11.44 7.50 12.93 73.80 (a much bigger number)
9.08 2.31 8.03 1.15 (again, a much
bigger number)

etc.

and having it work automatically with decimal points would be ideal : )

Type the data using the Tab key to separate out each "column".

Once you have the data in OneNote's table-like structure, you can go into
individual cells and use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl-L, Ctrl-E and Ctrl-R
to Left-, Center- and Right-align the content of individual cells.

Decimal alignment is not an available option.

Oh. Thank you.

I discovered too that I can put each set of figures into it's own little box.

But what I wanted to do was copy the whole thing from a research source so I
didn't have to type it.

The tab key doesn't seem to work because if I hit the tab key then the whole
line shoots right and becomes a column of its own.

Or, sometimes it simply doesn't do anything. I don't know what series of
keys I've hit to lock things in place like that.

Isn't there a tabulating function in this program? Like with a ruler where
you can set tabs every half inch or inch or whatever?

I had the whole thing in Word, with tabs, and the first tab seemed to be
intact... but none of the others....

Do you see what I mean? I have a bit of brain damage and I'm sometimes not
as clear as I want to be.

Hi -

You can adjust the width of the columns, although it's kind of klunky,
and that will give you nicely aligned columns. Move your pointer over
text in a column and you will see (on the left) a little "crosshair"
icon pop up. Right-click on the crosshairs and choose the menu item
that refers to adjusting the width of the PREVIOUS column. The icon
will change to sort of a vertical bar. Click and drag that bar so that
things line up the way you want them. Repeat for the other columns
until it looks the way you want it. The columns will stay aligned for
the rest of that page. Like I said, it's not elegant and I hope it gets
fixed in the next version. It "should" work for content that you copy
and paste from elsewhere, but I don't know because I haven't tried
that. If you are capturing things from the Web, that should come across
literally and not require adjustment.

Like you, I have trouble sometimes saying things and getting them to
come out the way I intended, so I hope this helps but if not let me
know where I lost you and I'll try again.

Hi Bill,
Thank you for helping me with this.
(and thanks for being understanding)

Yes, I too hope it's a little easier in the next version.

I have to go try again. It's a pretty neat program. I'm not sure why I like
it so much, maybe those little title things that stick out at the side that
make it so easy to go from page to page.

Thank you again!!!!!!
