I want to start the slide show in the middle of my presentation

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

and if i click the little monitor in bottom left hand corner, it jumps to the first slide. this is making me crazy. how do i start the slide show from the slide i am editing???

Control/Right-Click the slide & select View Slide Show from the contextual
menu.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for this?
(PPT Mac 2008)

Shift+Command+return... But you have to select the starting slide first, so
right-click/View Slideshow is even quicker since you most likely already
have your hand on the mouse or touchpad.
