I want to terminate virus scanning when opening MS word (2000)

I'm using MS Word 2000 on an XP with Norton. I'm trying to terminate
Norton, but MS word gets hung up because Norton is not available
to do virus scanning on files that I try to open up with Word.

How do I get MS Word 2000 to stop trying to look for Norton
in trying to scan for viruses.

I'm trying to switch to another anti-virus software system.

1. Open Norton AntiVirus (right-click on the Systray icon and choose this
option).

2. Click on the Options button at the top of the dialog.

3. In the Options dialog, click on Miscellaneous (menu on the left)

4. Clear the check box for "Enable Office Plug-in."

5. OK out and close NAV.
