I want to use a unicode code that is 5 digits instead of 4

I want to use a new unicode set which is musical notation but it is 5 digits
instead of 4 and the insert only allows 4 is there a way around this?

Type the 5 digits on the regular keyboard (not the numeric keypad) and
then type Alt-X.

It won't work if you don't have a font that includes the new range,
and it _may_ not work if your Windows and Word predate whichever
version of Unicode includes this new range. Does it do anything like
positioning noteheads on the staff for pitch, or is it just a set of
characters for occasionally mentioning a music notation within a text?
Does it mean the notation software like Finale and Sibelius will have
to be totally rewritten to accommodate it?.
