i want to view my task categories, one category at a time

I want to view by tasks by category: one category at a time. Most of my
tasks are associated with two or more categories. Outlook displays them in
category groups and I can't find a way to view them one category at a time.
This of course means tasks will be listed multiple times depending on how
many categories I have associated with it. I know this is possible because I
used to see them this way. I don't know what i did to cause them to show up
this way now.

Appreciate your help.

Hi Michael,
I have gone into "Customize Current view" many times to solve this problem,
but I cannot see where it is telling Outlook to group by categories. In
"Group by" The box "Automatically group according to arrangement" is
unchecked. Makes no difference whether it is checked or unchecked. There is
nothing in "Filter" that seems to make a difference.

What am I missing?

Thanks for your attention to this.

Hi Judy,
I am using Outlook 2003. Do you have step by step instructions anywhere
that you can share to solve this very annoying problem?

Appreciate it.

Thanks Michael,
That definitely helps. I can now do a filter and see what single category I
want. I'm still curious as to how to get it to display normally with a list
of each category in alphabetical order. Not grouped. I used to be able to
see this but not anymore.

Sorting by categories is not possible, and it never was. If you want to have
the view sorted by categories then you must group by categories and sort
that.

Please consider what grouping by categories means: It groups your *items* by
categories, not the categories theirself. That means if an item contains two
categories then that *item* is displayed in both categories, even if you set
a filter for having just one of it displayed. Whereas, if another item just
contains the one category that you fade out by a filter then that item is
not displayed.
