Hi,

I want test Groove 2007 to work with my team but I don't understand in thath
way Groove find the "persons" around the world. I don't want install a
server. I know Groove is a peer to peer software.

I live in Rome. If I connect my computer with Groove from my home, and
after, I fly to New York and I connect my computer from there. In that way
Groove 2007 installed on the computer of others team members can find me? I
must connect at Microsoft server in the same way of MSN Live Messenger?

You can explain to me?

Thank's

Benny

Hi

Groove would prefer peer to peer conection if it's possible. For example,
users stay in a local network.

In an internet based enviroment, true peer to peer conection often unable to
established, because firewall and routor will hide internal network
architecture to prevent vicious access.

Groove use relay server to establish virtual peer to peer conection. That
gives the Groove application ability to communication across firewall or
router. However, you don't need to install server application. Groove provide
hosted management server and relay server to clients, and make them
communicate smoothly.

You can also choose host your own relay server and management server to
avoid connect to public Groove servers.

Once you connected to relay server, the relay server will inform the online
message to all your members who added you to their contact list. They can
know your status.

if they list them into Groove.net public directory, you can search them
from Groove application, otherwise, you need to get their Vcard to add them
into your contact list.

Hi Benny,

Groove is a p2p software. So we don't need to connect to any server when we
use it. That's why we can log on Groove even if we don't connect on any
network.

However, we know the p2p protocol for Groove is SSTP, so opened TCP port
2492 is needed if we want to establish really p2p connection. In many
situation, port 2492 will be blocked by company firewall or any other
firewall. So we need to use relay server to establish virtual connection to
other users in these situations. If you can not connect to relay in these
situations, you can not communicate with any other people.

So Groove first try direct connection, if it fails, it will try to
communicate via relay server.
