I will not pay to fix a conflict between Microsoft mouse and Exce.

On my HP laptop, I have a conflict between the Microsoft mouse and Excel. It
locks up and forces me to restart my computer to use Excel any further. If I
just try to open Excel again, I will continue to have the same problem.

You may have an issue with HP. You should have some (1 year I believe) free
support on your mouse. Depending upon your copy of Excel, If it is a Retail
version bundled with Office, you would have 2 free support calls.
I would try reinstalling, the mouse, and or update both Windows, and Office.
Or even repair, or re-install Office.
