***** I would like to clear this once and for all !!!!

Hi everybody,
I have a very simple question!
I started out by creating a simple database for my
company to automate some administration tasks.

However, my database has grown to pratically a full
fledged software with amazing particularities that favor
the particular nature of my business.

Lately I have been getting the "dream-like" idea of maybe
marketing this Access database. The core of my question
is this:

"According to the rules of the art of the computer
programming world, is putting an Access database software
on the market using all of its bells and whitles (Ex: ODE
tools etc..) a practice that can be successfull ?

To all that can help me, I thankyou in advance for your
advice!

Regards,

Robert

Assuming there are people that can benefit from it, and people that can sell
it...yes.

Sure. But you need to be careful that you do not create a monster that will
haunt you forever after.

For example, at present, if you need to enhance your database, I imagine
that you would just go in to it, & make some changes. How is that going to
work when you have copies of your database all over the state
(country/contitnent/world)? What if some people do not always take-on the
new version(s)? (so now, the copies around the state are all at >different
versions<, then you need to change them again)? What if some people have
their PCs set to a screen resolution that does not match yours (where you
developed the system)? Have you developed comprhensive written & online
Help? What happens if someone's PC crashes, & they need to restore the
system, but with >their own data< ? If you will be selling the system into
other countries, do it work correctly in countries with different
day/month/year order to your own?

These are just some of the issues that are irrelevent when you develop a
system for your own (or your company's) use, but they become absolutely
critical when you release a product for general use. You really need to
think through every possible scenario, & ask yourself "how would that
work?", understanding that the PC in question might be in another state (or
continent), being used by people who you have never met, on a PC with total
different settings than yours.

HTH,
TC
