Is there any way to get the citation tool to recognize that you used the same source before and then insert Ibid. or Ibid. Pg.#? Or to use Author, Title pg# after you've entered the full citation once? Or does this all have to be done by hand?

I thought when I tested it---very briefly--it did use Author, Title, pg#
for the second reference to a source, when formatting footnotes in the
Chicago style.

You'll need to say what style you are using and whether these are
footnotes, endnotes, or in-text citations.

I was using chicago style in footnotes. Every footnote was formatted identically with ALL of the citation info even if I had already used it, or if i used the same reference consecutively. It only did Author and Year (or title can't remember) when it was an in text citation.

Yeah, I was wrong when I thought I tested this--it doesn't do short
second references. Use Help | Send Feedback in Word to report it--keep
it mind that you need to explain the problem to people who do not use
footnotes, so give an example of what should happen and what happens
instead. I'd rather you didn't ask for Ibid, though, I personally don't
like it and it is no longer required--I think short titles work better.
:) But failing to use shortened second references is inarguably a bug.

You can use Find and Replace to quickly change the notes--put the cursor
in the footnotes first, and then Replace All *should* only apply to the
footnotes, but even clicking Replace a bunch of times is much faster
than manually changing it.

Me, I'm just sticking with Word 2004 and EndNote. But Bookends is
already supporting Word 2008.
