iCal hangs after turning Entourage sync on.

I recently tuned entourage SyncServices support on. I tried to sync
both contacts and calendars.

contact syncing seems to work fine.

When I turned calendar sync on, I opted to sync my network calendar and
merge the sync services data with the entourage data. As soon as I'd
initiated this iCal became unstable and now hangs a few minutes after
it has been launched.

iCal also has one or two new calendars every time I launch it - they
are blank and contain no entries. there is no Entourage calendar in
iCal and on iCal entries are transferred to Entourage.

Since the problem started, I have turned syncing off and on and
selected different initialisation algorithms (Entourage has the truth,
sync services has the truth) I've also deleted iCal's plist file and
restored my iCal data from a backup. None of this helps.

If anyone has any idea how I can get syncing working or even just fix
iCal, I'd really appreciate it.

Further to this, turning on timezone support in iCal means that I now
get an Entourage calendar but iCal still hangs after a few minutes.
