When using FrontPage 2003 icons in webpages, on a Windows-based server with
Sharepoint services, I created a subdirectory named "icons" within my web.
This was accepted by FrontPage and the host but the web pages were unable to
use the subdirectory because "icons", "docs" and "manual" are apparently
reserved words in Linux. No warnings were given.
I then renamed the subdirectory "pageicons" and republished the website -
still no icons on the web pages. This time it is caused by the square
brackets in the standard icon names, typically "MCj00891900000[1].gif". Using
Firefox, everything worked OK, but using IE6 or IE7 (I don't have both on one
machine) the icon names could not be recognised. When I changed all the
square brackets to round brackets, everything worked in Firefox and IE6 and
IE7.
I now know the work-around, but are the square brackets needed for some
reason?
