Icon not showing on desktop but in program list

I have recently bought a new computer and it has Windows 7 installed. I
installed my copy of Office 2007 and have noticed the Powerpoint icon doesn't
show when a shortcut is created to the desktop but it does show on the
program list.
Can anyone advise why and how to rectify this glitch?
