Icons for Access 97, 2003 and 2007

Mark

I have Access 97, 2003 and 2007 all on the same machine used for
development. I currently use the open with option to open the relative
access app with the correct version. The 2003 and 2007 icon is exactly the
same. Is there a way of changing the icon to distinguish between opening in
2003 and 2007?

thanks

Hi Mark,

here is one way:

Make a shortcut on your desktop for each application
(one way to do this is to right-click on a program file in Windows
Explorer or My Coimputer, choose SendTo --> desktop)

then, right-click on the desktop shortcut
choose Properties

there you will see a Change Icon command button

you can move or copy the shortcut somewhere else once you get it set up

btw, 14 minutes after you posted this question, Kenny posted a question
titled "Force proper version of Access to open application" ... perhaps
you can share what you do with him...

Warm Regards,
Crystal

As far as I know, there's no way. A given file extension can only have a
single icon associated with it.

If you wanted to use different file extensions for each of the 3 versions,
you could set up different extensions for each one.

Another alternative is to look at a 3rd party product that will
automatically open in the correct version. Three that I'm aware of are:

ACCVER http://www.aylott.com.au/software.htm
Total Access Startup http://www.fmsinc.com/products/startup
AccessOpener http://www.openaccess.co.za/BlackAndWhiteInc/AccessOpener.htm

(of course, I don't know whether any of them have been updated for Access
2007 yet, given it's still a beta)
