Icons turn into black boxes

Hi!

I have a customer with the following problem. When he opens outlook (XP SP3)
after some time (hours to days) his mail Icons turn into black boxes. I've
tried deactivating the hardware accelleration on the graphic-card, and it
seemed to help for a few days, but the customer just called me and told me
that the problem has reappeared.

Any Ideas how I can fix this? Here the tech. spec.

- WinXP Prof. SP2
- Outlook XP SP3
- Exchange 2003

That's hard to determine without a little bit of extra digging.

Is there anything logged to the Event Viewer regarding this?
Which icons exactly are changing? Just the icons in front of the mail items?
Do you have any addins installed? Especially ones that add their own custom
icon are suspect.

At the same time, verify you are running the latest version of your graphics
card and install SP3 and additional updates for Windows XP to make sure you
are not trying to solve something which already has been fixed.

Additionally, you could rebuild the icon index via the Windows XP PowerToy
TweakUI;

Also verify that your resolution and color depth are in a range which the
monitor actually supports so that the correct icons are loaded.
