Ideas?

Here's my problem... I have employees starting new
projects by using a project template. The project is
linked to documents in the public documents folder... When
I save the template as a new project... the sharepoint
site is created... is there a way for these documents or a
copy of these documents to automatically transfer to the
new share point site?

It is possible, but not without some custom work. The documents need to be a
part of the SharePoint site template. How to accomplish this depends on the
version you're using. If you're adventurous, you can install the solution
accelerator for Six Sigma where you can reverse engineer or at least see how
it can be accomplished and maybe even borrow some code and ideas.
