Identity Cannot be opened

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have never used Entourage. I bought the Office home version (without entourage) and a few weeks later added the upgrade that includes Entourage. I have just installed the Office 2008 upgrade and when I click on the Entourage button, I get the following message:

"This identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage."

Entourage comes in every Office for Mac package. The Home & Student version
does not contain Exchange accounts.

"This Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of Entourage"

This message usually means, for example, any Identity saved with a 12.1.0 or
later version will not open in 12.0.0 or 12.0.1. Since there was a database
format change in 12.1.0 (SP1), Entourage 12.0.0 or 12.0.1 cannot open a
database saved in the later version.

Once you upgrade, the Identity will open.

Okay, so how does one "upgrade"? I just installed Office2008 today on my iMac; why do I need an "upgrade"? I can't even open Entourage. The main reason for choosing Office2008 is that I need to use it for managing work e-mail at home. Can someone please tell me how to "upgrade"? John

Okay, so how does one "upgrade"?

I should have said "update" not "upgrade." An upgrade is going from Office
2004 to Office 2008. Updating is going from 12.0.0 to 12.1.3.

Under Help in the Menu bar, select "Check for Updates". It will update the
DVD version to 12.1.3 in steps. See this page for help:

FWIW, this error has never come up before on an Entourage Identity that has
never been used.

I have a similar situation. I installed Office 2008 Home and Student and have used Word, Excel and Power Point, but never set up Entourage because I need to use Exchange. My Office 2008 full version just arrived today and I'm getting the "This identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage". I've tried rebuilding the database, it says it was successful, but then fails when I try to verify. I've tried updating to 12.1.4, but I get some error message that "You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.4 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume." Not sure where to go with this...

Does the database you are trying to open contain messages. You said you had
not used Entourage.

As to the install error.....

Under about Entourage, what version do you have installed? Some of the newer
DVDs install 12.1.0 where the original release installed 12.0.0.

If you have the 12.1.0 install, then you need to download 12.1.3 install
then download the 12.1.4 and update.

See this page for help with install errors.
