identity switch cancelled

help

Hello All,

I just recently installed office 2003 on an XP machine
PRO at work. Everytime I try to set up the user via
Outlook I get this message.

Identity Switch Cancelled.
The current identity could not be changed because one of
the applications was unable to switch. Close any open
dialog boxes in other applications before trying again.

You can click it and everything is normal but I would
like to get rid of this message. Also I have done a
search for this error but only found articles relating to
outlook express and not outlook office 2003.

Thanks all

Outlook Express uses Identities - not Outlook. If you are using Outlook,
try setting up profiles under Control Panel->Mail Icon->Show Profiles. If
you are not using Outlook Express as your mail client, ensure it is not the
default under Control Panel->Internet Options-Programs Tab.

Hmmm .... whilst i agree with you here regarding identities, i screwed
up my registry by deleting OE identities entries (Outlook was importing
the most bizarre settings) but in doing so, i couldn't start OE at all,
and got this error message when starting Outlook.

Seems Outlook relies somewhere on OE's registry identities settings if
importing is used?

I resolved the immediate matter by a bit of fiddling with back-up's, but
Outlook was definitely giving me the same error message as OE, the only
difference being OE wouldn't start at all, whereas Outlook fired up
after clearing the error dialogue.
