Identity Version Incompatibility

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

I use Office 2004 on a PowerMac Intel machine that is new and, when I am traveling, on my PowerBook that is four years old. Normally I copy the Main Identity from one computer to the other when I change computers, so that I have my email up to date. This has worked for four years. It has been three months since I transferred the main computer data to the laptop. When I tried the swap out that has always worked before, I got a message "This identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage." Since my desktop crashed, and I lost all my Office 2004 programs, I will have to reinstall from the original disks and will face the same problem there.
What can I do to get the saved Main Identity to work? I seem to recall that Microsoft had an Office update go out via the internet during the time I did not use the laptop. Is this the problem?
I looked for answers on this forum, but I only found moving from older version to newer, not the reverse.

Thanks.

Indeed it is. The error message tells you that the database you are trying
to use was modified by a newer version of Entourage which your current (i.e.
older) version of Entourage cannot read. Update Office 2004 to the latest
version (11.5.0), and you should be able to access your database again.

you simply need to apply the Microsoft Office Updates.

In 2004 this is easy - just select 'check for updates' from the Help
menu in any office app.
