IE 7.0 Beta 3 with Outlook 2003 cannot open Public Folders?

My Public folder links in Outlook today do not work after install of IE 7.0
Beta 3. Error reads: "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook
could not access the specified location." I ran a repair on Outlook but this
did not correct the problem.

What method do you use to access the Public Folders?

Do things work again when you uninstall IE7B3?

I have the same problem! When I click INBOX from the outlook today screen the
web toolbar displays 'outlook:/./\Personal%20Folders\Inbox' but when I click
INBOX from the mail folder list it displays 'outlook:Inbox'.

I have tried removing the folders I use from outlook today and re adding
them to no avail and as far as I know their is no way to edit this page
externally. Just as MS gets sharepoint calendar views displaying correctly
(it took three betas to do that??) they cause a stuff up in Outlook, do they
do ANY testing against THEIR OWN products before giving the public access to
them?

I'm having the same problem with Outlook 2003 after I installed IE 7, beta 3.
I'll backup my Outlook data file just in case something goes wrong. I'm going
to try Roady's suggestion and uninstall IE 7 to see what happens. I think
whatever damage has been done will not be irreverseable and I'll have to
reinstall Outlook. Unless someone can come up with a fix.

It is definetly a glitch with the new IE. I was working with the beta tech
group yesterday and they had me reinstall the beta 3 version at which point I
started getting the error message on my Outlook 2002. I had already hung up
with the tech group so was unable to address the issue.

I suggest that somehow a message get sent up to the techies in Nova Scotia
working on IE7 beta3 and let them know about the problem.

I've got Outlook 2002 SP3. Immediately after install IE7 Beta3, I have the
exact same problem, folder locations as "Milton" describes. Personal Folders
won't open & " Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not
access the specified folder location." error is displayed. I've tried 'Detect
& Repair' & recustomizing Outlook Today, to no avail. Just one thing here,
even tho the folder refuses to open, Outlook Today [Personal Folders] shows
the correct number of unread emails within the folder (Inbox).

There's got to be some 'fix' to this. I hope soon!

Go to Start click on Run type Regedit press enter go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Today and on the
right side look for the key UserDefinedUrl and double click and add the
missing character at the end - it appeared as outlwvw.dl when it should be
outlwvw.dll Then go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Today\Folders and on
the right side you will see a string for each folder you got on your Outlook
Today. IE7 added an extra backslash at the begining of the line on each
string; therefore you must double click on each entry and delete one
backslash then press ok. Close the registry editor. Start Outlook and the
situation should be fixed.

For those who have Outlook 2002, there is no Registry key as
"UserDefinedUrl". But all I did was step 2, just delete one backslash from
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Today\Folders
& that was it.

Correction : in my last 'Reply' for those who have Outlook 2002 the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Today\Folders
should actually read
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Today\Folders
( 10.0 instead of 11.0 ).

Uninstall IE7 and see if that fixes it.

Brian, 'EPHS IT' has already posted a solution on 7/21. It worked fine for me
& I also got to keep my IE7 Beta3.

Maybe I spoke to soon!? Basically what 'EPHS IT' has to say works, but after
a few days of making the change, I tried to reCustomise Outlook Today page
(wanted to add on the 'Notes' folder to the 'messages' view). Immdeiately
after that the original problem recurred. Checking back into the registry the
additional backslash had reappeared. After deleting the same Outlook works
fine again. So guys the Beta needs better working on?

I also found EPHS's information useful, but there were no extra
slashes. I took a little different tactic.

I looked in regedit as suggested and noticed Outlook folders in all
theearlier version folders of Office. I renamed all "Outlook" the 8,
9, 10, etc. folders to "OldOutlook" and then restarted Outlook. It
recreated the needed settings and life is looking good.
