IE April ActiveX "update" & Project Server <sigh>

?

.

If you haven't read about it, Microsoft is planning on including a
non-security update in their April IE cumulative security update. Apparently
they lost a patent fight and have decided to remove code from IE that allows
you to mouseover an ActiveX control and have it activate automatically.

This means that when you put your mouse on a hyperlink within an ActiveX
control, like Project Server's Project Center, the first click doesn't bring
up the project; it activates the control so you can click on it a second
time. It also puts a block around the control and gives you a tooltip that
is guaranteed to confuse people.

If you would like to download the change manually now to see what it does:

I read an article that claimed Eolas, the company with the patent, said that
Microsoft is doing this on their own volition and that it is not required by
court order, but http://news.com.com/2100-1028_3-5088349.html. MS's response
of http://blogs.technet.com/msrc/archive/2006/03/29/423560.aspx

I do know that it is going to be a real pain and is going to cause a lot of
work and rework for people. I also know I run Project Server 2003 SP2 and
this issue is not worked around.

Forewarned is...,
