IE to Word integration

I'm working on an intranet application that needs some integration
with Word. Employees will navigate the web application to look up a
customer. Then they need to be able to print or fax a canned letter
to the customer.

My plan is to allow a supervisor to create a template in word that has
special text to indicate where the dynamic content needs to be placed.
Then when the user is ready to print or fax a letter, they'd click
on a link in the browser that uses vbscript to launch word and search
and replace special tags in the document with the dynamic content.
The user could then edit the document if necessary and print or fax
the document from within Word.

Will this work? Or is there a better way to accomplish this?

Thanks,
John Weidner
