IE7 won't open docx

We are unable to open Docx documents from online. I can open .doc just fine.
Also, if I goto the same website (internal) with Firefox the .docx opens
just fine.

Within IE7, if I try to open, another tab opens very quickly and goes away -
no message. If I try to download the file I get a No Such Interface is
Supported.

I've tried on machies with Office 2007, Office 2003 (and 2007 viewer
installed). IIS is not installed on the webserver, so it's not a MIME
association, as I've been reading.

I'm a local administrator on the PC, but have no access to the web server
where the documents are hosted.

I've found similar issues online, but there doesn't seem to be a real
answer. My next test is IE8, but I'm not really at a point to convert the
company to IE8, nor have everyone use Firefox either.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is when you rightclick a link and choose Save Target As or however its'
worded?

??? If you're opening things from online, it seems that SOME web server must be
installed, if not IIS. Regardless, the MIME types would need to be set
correctly.

Until that happens, you *should* be able to rightclick/download the file and
save to your local disk; it'll likely save as a ZIP. Once it's saved, rename it
to change the .ZIP extension to .DOCX

It should then work. (I had to sort this out for my wife not three hours ago

Here's some more info to pass along to your web server admin. The page mentions
PPT but the info applies to the other Office 2007 file types as well.

PowerPoint 2007 files don't download correctly from a Web Server, open as zip
files
