IE8 problems

I have windows xp and downloaded IE8 (had IE7) Now computer is soooo slow,
what took two minutes now takes 10. also doesn't allow popups from sites
setup to allow (including this one) randomly closes windows all by itself.
every page download with errors. What can I do??
