IE's Web Folder DAV behavior changes after installing MS office

Hi,

I have noticed DAV's behavior changes after installing office.
I am accessing an apache DAV extension, using internet explorer
I open as Web Folder http://server.com/dir1/ and it works fine.
I can click a jpeg (for example, server.com/dir1/file.jpg)
and it brings up my default viewer. However when I configure
apache to alias my directory to be http://server.com/dir2/dir1/,
clicking the jpeg there doesn't invoke my default viewer anymore.
Network sniff actually shows that internet explorer doesn't not
even send any DAV request in this case.

Doesn't anybody know why? Is there any work around for this?
