IF function

Can I use the "if" function to determine if a cell contains a value that is
"greater than 1 but equal to or less than 5"?

eg....

if b4 >1 <=5
IF TRUE....
IF FALSE...

Use AND()

=IF(AND(B4>1,B4<=5),"condition is true","is false")

Jacob, many thanks, that certainly shows the result but when I do the final
enter it tells me I am missing a parenthesis or the like....apologies for
being such a dummy.

Why dont you post your formula..

'the below returns B4 if true else return blank
=IF(AND(B4>1,B4<=5),B4,"")

In which case, please enter the formula with matching sets of parentheses,
