If I accept new meeting requests they don't end up in my calendar

My problem is that nothing happens when I accept new meeting requests. They
are shown in my calendar, but because Outlook doesn't recognize that I
accepted, it won't send me a notification of the meeting. I can accept over
and over again. It will send a response, but it doesn’t change the status of
the meeting in my calendar.

This has caused me to miss several meetings because I wasn't aware that I
would not get a notification.

Who knows how I can fix this?
