if i write in word, why is is saved with openoffice?

I installed openoffice on my computer. the other day, installed microsoft
word. tried to open something that was done in word, and it showed it saved
as though written in open office. also am using the blackboard program for
school and all of a sudden can't open the word documents because of open
office. do i need to uninstall one of them?

Try re-registering Word by clicking on Start | Run, and in the "Open" box,
type:

"c:\<path>\winword.exe" /r

(including quotes, but replace <path> with the actual path to your
winword.exe file) and click on OK.
