If solve, you're a genius: Search for docs in Open dialog box

Whoever can solve this is a genius. I have a new Dell
desktop, Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Office XP
Small Business; Microsoft Word 2002. There is a wonderful
way to search for a document(s) in your Word
directories/folders. In the "Open Dialog box," go
to "Tools," "Search" and can do "Basic" or "Advanced"
searches. In "advanced," you can search for a word or
phrase that is the subject of the doc(s) you are looking
for, or the contents or the file names, etc. You can
limit your search to just "Word Files." So why doesn't
mine work? I always come up with "No Results Found" and I
have tried searches that I know should come up with
results. My applications are activiated. My indexing
Service is "on." It feels like - perhaps something has to
be turned on? Please help me, I really need to know what
is wrong. My hard drive is ok. I have downloaded &
installed updates to Word, etc., in the hope that that
would be the answer. No viruses. Please help. Thank you

Have you set a search location in the 'search in' box? By default the box
reads 'selected locations' but no locations are selected.
Check 'My documents' for a start!

if you goto advanced search, at the bottom of the menu is
other search options "Search in" choose everywhere. then
try again.

ML: I did try to search "everywhere." Same outcome,- "no
results found." But thanks for the input. attymusic

To Graham Mayor: I did try "My Documents" and in fact "My
Computer" which encompasses everything. I have also
chosen Word files and also "anything" under "results
should be." I can't understand why it doesn't search as
it should. But I thank you very much for your input.

Suzanne: thanks for the input. The reason I prefer to do
searches from Word (which for some unknown reason, I
can't seem to do) is because you can search for words
found in the "contents" of a document (e.g. all letters
with a reference to the name "Smith"). attymusic
