I am reposting this because it is so close to what I want,
I had give it another try. here is a section of my
spreadsheet. This occurs many times on my spreadsheet.
In sample below I need the result in col.c to equal the
cell number of "green" in col e. This is not the actuall
cell number. It is just the cell "count" of columns d and
e. according to example below, the cells in column d would
be 1,3,5,7, etc, and cells under column e would be 2,4,6,8
etc. The results in column c are then used in another
formula. The text in colums d and e are entered, and
change weekly. Below is another explanation and a formula
from Tom, I think his formula is very close to what I want
but it is giving the actuall cell count from the
spreadsheet, not the "count" of the cells that I need for
every occurance on my spreadsheet. Sorry for the long
explanation, I just couldn't find a shorter way.
Thanks, Johnb
col(C) D E
2 green
3 smith
6 jones
7 harris
9 red
12 white
13 black
16 brown
That almost is it Tom.
It is returning the actuall count of the cell. For
instance:- the formula is returning the values that i
typed in in col c. My actuall spreadsheet is as follows:
col c col d col e
row 4 8 jones
row 5 9 smith
row 6 12 green
I changed the colums and rows in your formula to match
mine. I still neet the result "col c" to return a value
of 2 in row "4" according to the sample above. I also have
multiple instances of this in the same spreadsheet Which
puts it in different columns and rows. ex - col I, J, K
rows 18 through 30. In which I need the same result of 1
or 2, 3 or 4, etc.
Thanks again for your help.
