FP Leaner
I believe this is the right NG for this post, but apologies if not
I'm in a hole through my own ignorance; would appreciate some guidance.
I have FP2002 installed and working, using IIS and FP extns, on a laptop,
under Win XP. I have created a number of sub-webs, following tutorials in
books. All work as specified in the relevant book. The laptop is my web
server (in //localhost/inetpub/wwwroot), but it's too small and too slow.
To fix this I have now installed FP2003, IIS and FP extns on a desktop,
running Win 2k. Desktop and laptop communicate via a router (with other
computers) on my home LAN. LAN installation has worked without networking
problem for some time. I can freely read and write files between any of the
computers.on my LAN. It's a peer-to-peer Workgroup. No Domain or DNS server.
Uses DHCP, via the router for Internet access. All desktops use win2k, only
laptop uses Win XP.
First step with FP2003 was to try to import sub-webs from web server on
laptop. FP2003 can see them all and gives me a nice panel to transfer from
'remote' to 'local'. As soon as I try to do this an 'Enter Network Password'
dialog box is presented, asking for a User Name and Pwd, and a DOMAIN. I'm
not sure where this user and password should be defined, but I have used
Tools/Server/Administration via FP2002 on the laptop to create a user and a
user account, with password. The dialog box will not accept this combination
of user name and pwd, either with my workgroup name in place of the DOMAIN
name, or with a blank DOMAIN name. I cannot tell which item (user name or
pwd) the dialog box objects to.
If I just use Windows Explorer from the desktop, then I can get to and read
all the sub-webs, their folders and files on the laptop. But this is not the
way to do it. I want to import these sub-webs. What should I be doing to
successfully get past the dialog box?
Thanks for your patience.
